Your Next Step is Certified ID (Identification)

When we contact the authorised authorities (Super Fund/Insurance Company) on your behalf, they request that we provide them with your Certified ID.

Certification Process

  1. Make a Copy: Create a clear and legible photocopy of the original document. Libraries and Australia Post offices provide photocopying facilities as well as retail office suppliers like Officeworks.
  2. Visit a Certifier: Take both the original document and the photocopy to an authorised certifier.
  3. Certification Statement: The certifier must write a statement on the copy, such as: “I certify this to be a true copy of the document shown to me as the original.” This statement must include the certifier’s signature, full name, profession, registration number (if applicable), and the date of certification.
  4. Multiple Pages: If the document has multiple pages, the certifier must indicate the total number of pages and initial each page.

A certified ID is a photocopy of an original document that has been endorsed by an authorised person, confirming that it is a true and accurate copy. 

  1. Driver’s Licence

  2. Passport (identifying page)

  3. Identity Card (proof of age card issued by govt)

If you have changed your name, provide copies of paperwork to link your old and new names, such as:

  • Change of name certificate from the Births, Deaths and Marriages registry office
  • Marriage certificate

Authorised Certifier (who can certify documents)
Here are examples of people who may be able to certify copies of ID:

  • Medical practitioner, nurse, pharmacist and other health practitioners
  • Legal practitioner
  • Registrar or Master of a court, judge, other judicial officers
  • Justice of the Peace, Commissioner for Oaths or Public Notary
  • Australia Post staff
  • teacher at a school or tertiary education institution
  • police officer
  • bank, building society or credit union officer (with more than 2 years’ service)
  • public servants with several years of service
  • elected government representatives
  • other professionals including: accountant, engineer, veterinary surgeon
  • Minister of religion.
